Gedeb area washing-station cooperative

Yirgacheffe, Gedeo Zone · 1800–2100 m

The cooperative delivers cherry to one washing station and is paid per kilo at the gate. They agreed in writing to publish the price paid and these photographs; individual member names stay off the site at their request.

We publish a producer’s name, face or farm name only with their written agreement, and only in the wording they chose. Anything they asked us to leave out is left out of the record as well as the page.

The money

22% of the bag price
reached the producer

Every line below has an invoice or receipt number next to it in the folder. Add the lines up and you get the price on the bag.

  • Green coffee at FOB$5.20
  • Paid to the farm (FOB, from export invoice)$3.50
  • Freight, duty and import entry$1.60
  • Roasting and QC$3.90
  • Bag, card, printing$1.30
  • Delivery round$2.10
  • Set aside for the next origin visit$1.90

The producer line is the cherry payment itemised on the export invoice, which is not the same as the farm-gate price — the washing station and the mill sit between those two figures. We have asked the exporter for a farm-gate statement and will replace this line when it arrives.
